GOTHAM CITY AT EXPO CITY 2020

A pavilion for a city that doesnt exist

The Brief:Facing the crowded entertainment landscape of the MENA region, Warner Brothers aimed to make a significant impact with the launch of the new Batman movie at Expo 2020.
Despite the creative ambition, the team was constrained to an 8 day execution window following the finalization of planning and approvals, necessitating a novel approach to engage a vast and diverse audience effectively. The unique draw of Expo 2020 lay in its ability to captivate millions through immersive experiences that combined storytelling with cutting edge technology.

The Idea:Seizing the opportunity, the concept was to bring Gotham City to life promoting the new Batman movie in a way that resonated with Expo 2020’s global audience while leveraging its immense exposure potential. The Gotham City Pavilion, envisioned as an experiential space within Expo 2020, cleverly positioned Gotham a fictional city alongside the 190+ country pavilions. The project transformed a disused area above a restaurant into an interactive environment, where elements of a gritty cityscape, iconic Batman motifs, and a symphony of sound and light came together to deliver an authentic experience of The Batman. Safety for younger visitors was ensured through foam-constructed décor, while props, memorabilia,
and analog interactive elements such as UV light-hidden riddles invited fans to fully immerse themselves in Batman’s quest for justice.
